The Road to Acceptance

Ellen from Stumbo Family Story asked me to do a guest post for her. Something about how I came to terms with Ben's CP diagnosis and acceptance. Ellen and her husband adopted Nina last year from the Ukraine and Nina has CP. So after a few days of thinking and writing, I finally came up with a post called The Road to Acceptance. Go check it out when you get a chance and come back and let me know what you think.

  1. Great Blog Post Cary!!! I love that you speak from your heart. Ben is perfect, Danial is too! Hey, not fair...you got two perfect kids. haha
I am like you and google everything I can about C.P. and put our google alerts etc. I am obsessed about finding out more and doing more for Hailey and my husband loves her so much and doesn't look at any of this. In his mind by spending all this time on the internet and scrapping up any bit of information we can, is wasting precious time that we can be spending with Hailey. He has a point, but we are the grandparents and the kids recently moved out. I spend my off time trying to educate people, friends and family about Hailey and learning more about c.p., but when Hailey is here or we are at her house 100% of my attention is on and with her. She just makes my heart melt!

  2. Great post! I have a question though. I'm having a tough time with my family because they keep saying that Mark will walk and then he'll be just fine. It drives me CRAZY! It's like they think he'll just magically heal and there will no longer be any brain damage. How do you handle this? Well if you do? It's so frustrating because I want them to see how much progress he's making instead of focusing on "normal." It feels like they think there was a mistake made in the diagnosis and I'm constantly pulling them out of denial.

  3. BEAUTIFUL! As always. I think you are so right to point out that there is a whole other part of the diagnosis and grieving when you have twins. I have been thinking about that a lot lately. When you do your guest post for me I am going to link to this post because I think it is really wonderful!
